EVALUATION OF LESSON DURATION AND LESSON HOURS OF PRIMARY SCHOOL ACCORDING TO OPINIONS OF CLASS TEACHERS

It is considered that time of the students’ spend in school and in class influences student achievement. This time has been an important field of work for the editors of the education system. On the other hand, class teachers' thoughts on this issue are also important. The aim of the study is to examine the opinions of the class teachers on the adequacy of the 40-minute lesson and 6 lessons per day in primary school. Also to determine the cause of these comments and suggestions. The study group of the study is composed of 40 class teacher. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher. These data were also evaluated by means of content analysis. The most important findings were; the vast majority of teachers want to increase the 40-minute course length, the duration of 1st class to be higher than other class levels and to reduce the number of courses that are 6 hours per day. It is suggested that the course period, the course duration of 1st class and daily/weekly course hours should be reassessed for those who direct and regulate the education system.
