THE STUDENT OPINIONS REGARDING THE PIANO TRAINING METHODS: THE SAMPLE OF TRABZON UNIVERSITY STATE CONSERVATORY

The technical behaviors underlie the piano training. The solid technical behaviors enable the musicality to be easily revealed. Practicing regularly and correctly is required to improve the technical skills and musicality. Piano is a compulsory instrument in the institutions providing occupational music education and the students taking piano training may encounter various problems during their piano classes. One of these problems is the students' knowing how to practice piano. This study aims to present practice suggestions after taking opinions from related students regarding their piano practice processes. The study also includes information on how to practice piano. This study employs case study method which is a qualitative research type. Study group consists of 10 students in Trabzon University State Conservatory Department of Music Theory. The data was collected with the interview form prepared by the researcher. Content analysis method was employed to analyze the data. According to the data acquired in the study, we collected the opinions of students regarding their practice times, their awareness on making mistakes, being able to listen themselves, recording during practice, the difference in their situation after and during class, their stages of learning a song, finding different ways of solution, methods to practice piano effectively. Practice suggestions were brought forward in line with these opinions. In line with the acquired data; effective practice suggestions in piano training were made for using psychomotor, cognitive and affective skills at the same time, maintaining attention and concentration, guiding on how to practice, applying different learning strategies, practicing effectively, maintaining discipline and continuity, searching for solutions with different approaches, being patient and making a self-sacrifice.
