RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PERCEPTION OF ORGANIZATIONAL POLITICS AND ORGANIZATIONAL CYNICISM LEVELS OF RESEARCH ASSISTANTS WORKING IN EDUCATION FACULTIES

This study examined the relationship between the perceptions of research assistants employed in educational faculties of various state universities in Turkey regarding perceptions of organizational politics and their levels of organizational cynicism. This study examined the relationship between the perceptions of research assistants employed in educational faculties of various state universities in Turkey regarding organizational politics and their levels of organizational cynicism. This study is based on the views of research assistants employed at faculties of education. In Turkey, research assistants have an ambiguous job description.  Although it includes fulfilling all tasks assigned by anyone with a higher academic title, their work has no long-term employment guarantee. The main reason for choosing research assistants for the study was that research assistants have an ambiguous job description in Turkey. Although the job includes fulfilling all tasks assigned by anyone with a higher academic title, there is no long-term employment guarantee. They are likely to develop a cynical attitude towards other academics as they are the target of organizational politics. So, they are likely to develop a cynical attitude towards other academics as they are the target in organizational politics. In the study designed in the correlational model, in order to collect the data, 341 research assistants were administered" Perception of Organizational Politics" and "Organizational Cynicism" scales via e-mail. As demographic variables, the research assistants' "gender, age, organizational tenure, and educational status" examined, and for the analysis of the data, descriptive and predictive analysis techniques used. As a result, the research assistants perceive the academician behaviors in the education faculties as political at an above-average level and feel cynical at an above-average level. It also concluded that the sub-dimensions of the perception of organizational politics are a significant predictor of organizational cynicism. In addition, determined that as the ages, organizational tenure, and educational status of the research assistants increase, their political perceptions, cynical attitudes, and behaviors increase.
