ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN INTRINSIC MOTIVATION, SELF-EFFICACY FOR TEACHING, ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE TEACHING PROFESSION AND PUPIL CONTROL IDEOLOGIES

The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between the intrinsic motivations for the pedagogical formation program, the perceptions of self-efficacy for teaching, the attitudes towards the teaching profession and the pupil control ideologies of the pedagogical formation teacher candidates. The research was conducted with 366 teacher candidates in a pedagogical formation program in the 2018-2019 academic year at a state university in Eastern Turkey. A data collection form composed of five parts was used in the research. The first part of the data collection tool consisted of personal information, the second part consisted of “The Scale of Pedagogical Formation Motivation”, the third part consisted of “The Scale of Self-efficacy for Teaching”, the fourth part consisted of “The Scale of Attitude towards Teaching Profession” and the fifth part consisted of “The Scale of Pupil Control Ideologies”. Data were gathered and analyzed with structural equation modeling. Five hypotheses were developed based on the theoretical framework within the context of the research and these hypotheses were accepted as a result of the analyses. It has been determined that there are direct and indirect relationships between the intrinsic motivations for the pedagogical formation program, the perceptions of self-efficacy for teaching, the attitudes towards the teaching profession and the pupil control ideologies of the pedagogical formation teacher candidates. Teacher candidates’ intrinsic motivations for the pedagogical formation program, perceptions of self-efficacy for teaching and attitudes towards the teaching profession altogether explain approximately 50% of the variance in the pupil control ideologies.
