THE ROSE MOTIF IN TURKISH EMBROIDERY ART

Rose, which has a cultural background as old as the history of mankind, has always been seen differently from all plants and especially from other flowers. In almost all religions and cultures, rose has found a wide place and has been discussed in a wide perspective in literary sense. Plant, animals, nature, which symbolizes everything that is moving in the human being seen as the queen of flowers as well as the time and place without knowing the symbolic meanings have loaded. For this purpose, in the light of the information obtained from the literature in the study, along with the real and symbolic meanings of the roses, examples of embroidered products that have an important place in Turkish cultural history and which use rose motif as the subject of decoration are presented. This study is a descriptive research based on screening model. Examples of the processing that comprise the sample of the study are the original qualities found in collections of various museums or during field research. Technical and aesthetic features of the products were evaluated and discussed. The aim of the study is to determine the importance and place of the rose motif within Turkish cultural history in Turkish processing art. The study is important for the documentation of the heritage of the material culture products by uncovering the traditional Turkish motifs and to create resources for the following researches.
