Summary

AN INVESTIGATION ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEACHERS' OCCUPATIONAL COMMITMENT AND SCHOOL EFFECTIVENESS

This research is conducted to determine whether teachers' occupational commitment predicts school effectiveness. The predictive research design is used in the study. 396 volunteer teachers who work in public schools in different districts of Istanbul Anatolian Side participated in the study. The research data were collected by the “Occupational Commitment Scale” and “School Effectiveness Index Scale”. In the analysis of the data, a t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and regression analysis were applied. In the study, while there were no significant differences in terms of gender variable, significant differences were found in terms of educational status, seniority and school variables studied. According to the findings of the research, it is seen that there is a moderate and positive relationship between teachers' occupational commitment and school effectiveness. It can be said that as teachers' occupational commitment increases, school effectiveness increases positively. Concordantly, it can also be said that teachers' occupational commitment is low in the first years of teaching and they cannot contribute sufficiently to school effectiveness. Therefore, it may be suggested to take measures to ensure the occupational commitment of teachers in the first years of teaching.
