ANALYZING THE ATTITUDE TOWARDS PHYSICAL EDUCATION LESSON AND ACADEMIC MOTIVATION AMONG HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Present study aimed to examine the attitudes towards physical education lesson and academic motivation of high school students. The study was designed as a cross-sectional quantitative study. 211 high school students from Hatay participated in the study. The participants were chosen according to convenience sampling method. The data were collected by using "Attitude scale towards physical education lesson" and "Academic motivation scale". The data were analyzed with SPSS 23 Package Program and descriptive statistics were given as Mean and Standard Deviation. Independent samples t test was used between groups in paired comparisons. Partial correlation analyzes were applied to examine the relationship between the variables. As a conclusion, present study showed that male students and students participated in inter-school competitions had higher attitudes towards physical education lesson and external regulation than other students, on the other hand female students and students who had never competed in inter-school competitions were more amotivated. Besides, as the attitude towards physical education lesson increases, academic motivation increases and amotivation decreases in both males and females.
