Summary

PERCEIVED PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE TERMS OF MENTAL ENDURANCE IN ATHLETES RELATIONSHIP WITH FATIGUE

This study was conducted to determine the relationship between mental endurance and perceived physical and cognitive fatigue in athletes and its effect in terms of demographic variables. The research was conducted from different regions and 494 individuals with different demographic characteristics who continued their active sports life participated. The data were collected via Google form, and in the first part, a personal information form consisting of 7 questions prepared by the researcher (age, gender, education level, financial income level, school type, licensed sports status, how long have you been doing sports?) In order to determine the level of cognitive fatigue, the Perceived Physical and Cognitive Fatigue Scale (AFBIS) developed by Tekkurşun et al. (2023) was used, and in the third part, the Mental Endurance Inventory in Sports developed by Sheard et al. (2009) and adapted into Turkish by Altıntaş and Bayar Koruç (2016) was used. is formed. In this study, data was analyzed using IBM SPSS 22.0 program and frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and Cronbach alpha calculations were made. The suitability of the data for normal distribution was examined with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the data did not show a normal distribution. As a result, Mann-Whitney U was used for variables with two levels, Kruskal-Wallis H was used for variables with three or more levels, and Spearman Correlation test was used to determine the relationship between them. Participants' SZD and AFBY scales were examined in terms of demographic variables; The SZD level was higher in male participants, and in terms of age level and duration of doing sports, the SZD and AFBY levels of individuals in the 14-17 age group and those who had been doing sports for 7 years or more differed significantly compared to the upper age group and individuals with less time doing sports. Moreover, according to the results of Sperman Correlation analysis, it was determined that individuals' SZD levels significantly affected their AFBI levels, but there was no significant result in terms of other demographic variables.
