The aim of this study was to develop an original measurement tool (Departmental Readiness Scale –Faculty of Sports Sciences, DRS-FSS) capable of assessing the discipline-specific readiness levels of students in the Faculty of Sports Sciences across their physical/motor, mental/psychological, and academic-professional dimensions. It was determined that while the literature contains general-purpose readiness/adjustment scales for higher education (SACQ, CCR, etc.), there is no Turkish-language measurement tool with tested psychometric properties that is applicable to programs—such as sports sciences—that require a discipline-specific, multidimensional competency profile. The study sample consisted of 114 students from the Faculty of Sports Sciences. The scale’s construct validity was tested using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The results of the exploratory factor analysis indicated that the data were suitable for factor analysis (KMO = .834; Bartlett’s χ² = 1258, df = 231, p < .001). Three items showing low or cross-loadings (m1, m21, m23) were excluded from the analysis, and five items were reverse-coded, resulting in a two-factor structure explaining 42.9% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis largely confirmed this structure in an independent sample (χ²/df = 1.71; CFI = .984; TLI = .982; RMSEA = .080; SRMR = .086). In reliability analyses, Cronbach’s alpha was found to be .913 for the first factor and .818 for the second factor. The findings indicate that the BHÖ-SBF is a valid and reliable instrument for measuring the level of readiness for the department among students in the Faculty of Sports Sciences. Due to the limited size of the study group (n = 114) and the disproportionate representation of the Sports Management program, it is recommended that the scale be retested on larger samples that more evenly represent the four undergraduate programs.
