Literary works and other informative source works are materials that have the power to play a role in the development and reinforcement of the objectives of social studies curriculum, basic human values and attitudes, and basic competencies of the 21^st century. In this context, the aim of the study is to determine the literary works and other types of works excerpted in social studies textbooks and their use. The data  of the study were collected from the 4, 5, 6, and 7^th-grade social studies textbooks provided in the EBA online education platform which was updated in 2019. The document analysis method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. As a result of the research, various literary products and sociocultural, socioeconomic, sociogeographical and socioscientific books were generally found to be excerpted in social studies textbooks. These literary products and other excerpted works were found mostly in 7^th-grade social studies textbooks and the least in 4, 5, and 6^th-grade social studies textbooks. A violation of ethics in which these literary work excerpts were generally taken from an Internet address without any reference rather than from the works themselves was encountered occasionally in 4 and more frequently 5 and 6^th -grade social studies textbooks. It was ascertained that the literary works and other printed works excerpted in all social studies textbooks were compatible with the learning areas. However, it was determined that many literary products and works were used by editing them according to student levels. These results show that those literary genres and source books (trade books) with many different contents need to be printed after editing them in terms of language and wording according to student levels. It is believed that excerpts copied from the Internet without reference in the textbooks will also decrease in this way.
