RECREATIVE SPORTS ACTIVITIES AT SECONDARY SCHOOL LEVEL THE EFFECT OF IMMIGRANTS ON THE SCHOOL ADAPTATION PROCESS

In this study, it was aimed to examine the changes in the school adaptation processes of secondary school level immigrants who migrated to Kütahya with different statuses, as a result of their participation in recreational sports activities. The study group of the research consists of 24 immigrants between the ages of 10-14 who reside in Kütahya and receive education in Turkish in secondary schools in Kütahya. This study was designed with quantitative research methods. In collecting data, the "School Adjustment Scale for Secondary School Students" developed by Uslu (2021) was used. In the research, pre-test and post-test were applied using two groups: experimental and control groups. The scale questions consist of 18 items and two sub-dimensions. The dimensions are divided into 2 subgroups: social adaptation and academic adaptation. In the social harmony dimension; 9 different questions were asked to determine the friendship relations and dimensions of immigrant students in their schools. In the academic problems sub-dimension; 9 different questions were asked regarding language problems, equivalence problems, school attendance problems, adaptation and grouping problems, and academic problems. Non-parametric tests were used in the research. The Mann Whitney-U test was used to compare the experimental and control groups, and the Wilcoxon test was used to compare the pre-test and post-test. As a result of the research, it was seen that recreational sports activities made a positive contribution to immigrant students' academic and social adaptation to school.
